Hello Everyone,
Several new interpretive films have been added to the California MPA
Educational Resources website.
Three of these new films are part of our “Conversations with Central Coast
Photographers” series. These films document how different photographers
around the California coast are working within MPAs to bring awareness
of these protected areas to their audiences.
One of these films is a 17-minute travel documentary following
professional photographer, Doug Steakley, as he visits several shooting
locales around the central coast with Kip Evans. Throughout this piece
Doug highlights photographic opportunities and offers technical
photography advice for getting great shots. While this film is a ‘must see’
for photography enthusiasts, everyone can appreciate the natural beauty
of the MPAs that are visited throughout this film!
In addition, on the website, several short children’s films are presented
which highlight the need for ocean conservation. These films were
produced by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary MERITO
program in collaboration with elementary school students from Monterey
and Santa Cruz county communities. The film project aims to engage
culturally diverse youth in guiding their own learning of ocean science
and ocean conservation, through the creation of digital films.
We hope you’ll take time out of your busy days to enjoy some of these
films and if appropriate share them with your friends and colleagues!
Sincerely,
Danielle ~ on behalf of the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Foundation
