Fun Activities

Do you think you can tell the difference between the sounds dolphins and whales make? These fun activities will test your ability to distinguish marine mammal songs, help you find out how much kelp may be hiding in your house, teach you about storm water pollution, and allow you to track sharks along the coast!

Name That Song!
Listen to these marine mammal vocalizations and guess whether the call is from a whale, porpoise, or dolphin. Match the songs in the left column (click on the sound to hear it) with the correct marine mammal in the right column. See how many you and your friends can get correct! You can get the answer here.

Track an Ocean Predator
Are there sharks in your neighborhood? TOPP, or Tagging of Pacific Predators, tags large marine animals such as sharks, whales, dolphins, birds, and sea turtles to see where they are in the ocean. Some of these animals are known to travel great distances across the ocean and some are homebodies, staying close to where they were tagged. Click below to view real-time tracking data and find out if there are any sharks hanging out in your neighborhood! More fun activities are avaliable at the TOPP website.
